Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

MBSE is an engineering approach that uses a common, digital tool suite allowing all team members – from engineer to top management – to have awareness, line-of-sight, and an understanding of the interaction between the various moving parts across the systems engineering and project lifecycle.

Gryphon uses MBSE to develop the related ship system models to define, design, and document the ship system both during the new build and with in-service ships. These models provide the developer a quick and effective way to virtually prototype and explore systems under development as well as impacts of upgrades and modifications. This allows Gryphon to communicate system aspects and reduce the dependence on tradition documents.

MBSE provides information sooner and more cost-effectively than implementation alone. It allows us to simulate complex systems and system-of-systems interactions with appropriate fidelity to accelerate decision making and system understanding. These models can then be used to directly build the actual implementation through AutoCAD interfaces.

Currently Gryphon is using an MBSE Full platform network topology approach to significantly reduce the implementation time and cost of RMF analysis on CVN 78 through the use of tools and techniques developed in support of the Navy’s Cyber Vulnerability Assessment Tools. Enter the data once and re-use multiple times.

Gryphon supports the National Institute of Mental Health's (NIMH) mission to accelerate scientific research by designing, developing, and now advancing the NIMH Data Archive (NDA).

This enterprise solution makes available all human subjects' data in mental health and Autism as well as the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study (ABCD), the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI), and prospective data sharing for NIAAA. NDA provides infrastructure for sharing research data, tools, methods, and analyses enabling collaborative science and discovery. De-identified human subject data, harmonized to a common standard, are available to qualified researchers and scientists. Researchers can now rapidly spin up an instance in the cloud and do meaningful computational studies in a fraction of the time and cost than just a couple years ago. The program has received an Authorization to Operate to include PII data, and new advancements in data quality, security, and usability are being released regularly.
